The Pac-12 Thread....May 20, 2012 6:43 pm
Hello Posters
Been a minute since i have been on this thread as ive been mostly on the Pac 12 will Dominate College Football one. Boy them southern boys dont like to hear that anyone is better ill tell you that. NWT this thing is still moving strong though. I still am wondering why it is that not a single Bruin fan has jumped on here yet. Weve seen a couple people from each team that has said a word or two or more but its like UCLA fans just fell off the earth or something. Crazy. Anyway the countdown continues till opening weekend. Then we can get our championship run underway Dawgs beat the Cougs Beavs beat the Ducks Cats beat the Devils Cardinal beat the Irish Utes beat the Buffs Cal beat UCLA Trojans beat em all! Fight On |

The Pac-12 Thread....May 20, 2012 7:12 pm
Well to me the whole "wanna be Rose Bowl" makes no sense with Slive and some of the SEC tools have been so outspoken about how much power the B1G/Pac-12/Rose Bowl have over the college football landscape yet they are going to try and copy it? I'm sure the Jerry Dome would be a nice venue but Dallas isn't Pasadena, the great thing about the Rose Bowl is the atmosphere. Even after WSU got slaughtered by Oklahoma, the whole experience of the Rose made you nearly forget about the game where the Sooners constantly cheap shotted Gesser. Watching a Bruin home game and the Rose Bowl is just a dumped that needs to be demolished but during the actual bowl game it is a magical place.......plus I cannot see the Sugar Bowl or Fiesta Bowl going down without swinging.
As for the non revenue sports, it is clear the Pac-12 has the best softball and baseball is great but we have a huge issue, the OOC opponents that the Pac-12 plays are solid programs. You don't have any of the Cal State programs on the east coast, don't have the WCC schools. UCLA has 2 of the top 3 picks last year but didn't run rough shot through the conference. And fat chance UW beats Wazzu this year, as much as Keith Price gets credit for last season, UW lost their entire offense in losing Chris Polk and to top it off, UW's horrible defense lost their captain and it expecting a freaking true freshman safety to rescue them. Add in their new d coordinator got Tennessee exactly a mid tier SEC defense against teams with no offense, ya that will work out well with all the firepower in the conference. So put the offense in the hands of a sophomore WR who underperformed, a sophomore TE and a frosh safety, that equals last place. |

They more so of Kearse under performed massively. Williams is a big fast and strong reciever and the reason i think they will be better this year is because they DONT have Polk to fall back on. Williams and ASJ will breakout with Price as triple threat to deal with. They will step their game up because they will see that they have their chance to shine. The defense uh well that is still a question mark. I do have to agree with you on that. My question to you is what does Wazzu bring to the table this year that gives them the upper hand? I dont really follow them so I am curious. |

The Pac-12 Thread....May 21, 2012 4:53 pm
Because they don't have Polk they will be better? Price was garbage last year when Polk missed significant time. Williams and Jenkins will be all Pac-12 type players but when they had a short little quarterback and contrary to your belief Price is not a triple threat. Can he run..yes but he isn't someone you have to spy. WSU brings an explosive offense back. We were still pretty solid last year but our best player was injured, tried coming back against Stanford and OSU but got hurt again. Tuel is the most important player on the team and had he been healthy the Cougs would have gone to a bowl game last year, and this year with one more year in the weight room the o-line is finally up to Pac-12 weight. Are we going to be great, no but 8 wins is not unrealistic.

wmich, thanks for the "cameo" , bro, always appreciated...
How about this super-conference chatter? Is the B1G in or out of it? Do we even have to play? what's your think on it. |

----------------- NWT, I think the potential Benjamins make it almost inevitable. When the SEC went to 14 the tectonic plates began to shift. The Big XII, ACC and BE are in a very precarious position. The B1G, the SEC and the PAC have lost no one and have added, Im not sure who the 4th S.C. will be at this point |

wmich, I don't know my view on this is shared much beyond E.D., truth be told, we don't much care where ND goes, it's their call and good luck to them. Don't much care what FSU does either.LOL
None of it seems to have any bearing on the Pac beyond an extra Bowl which, I assume, would side with the our two conferences on Bowl vs Playoff issues. Both our conferences are stable, hence no need for keeping up with the others, if we're satified with our conference network deals, does it matter much if suddenly the Big-12 and SEC get a sudden jump? Not at the fan level anyways. Personally, I'd rather have a super good conference than a "super-conference". Let rant back east, lol, we'll just watch great football. |

I know the elitists at Cal would throw a fit but why not just do a football only membership to get the conference to 16 teams? BYU, Boise, Nevada and a San Diego State or something. Do a back door meeting with the WAC and put their other sports back in that conference to save it? The Pac-10 added just members only to save sports such as Boise State in the Pac-12 for wrestling. If football only then there is no reasons the anti religious folk in the conference can complain since there are no games on Sundays. It isn't like the Pac-12 doesn't already have a relationship with the WAC since the confernece routinely plays them in OOC games in all sports.

Wazzu,
I think a lot more schools than just Cal would be upset at a football only arrangement in the conference. Why share the money when you don't have to? I'm not convinced that a majority of schools are on the superconference train. How is the PAC Network going to effect, if at all, my subscription to Oregon's "O" Zone wherein I get Oregon sports already broadcast? I'm sure most of the other schools have a similiar subscription service. Are these school services going to continue? |

The Pac-12 Thread....May 22, 2012 8:45 pm
If more than just Hippie U would complain then why did they allow Boise State to join wrestling? It is ok to lower the standards for a non revenue sport but not to lower the standards for a sport Boise State would actually bring money to the conference? I personally think going to 12 sucked but if the superconferences are the way of the future then the Pac-12 better join instead of being left in the dust like last time with Hansen and snotty Cal. As for sharing the money, if superconferences are formed then who knows how the restructering of money will go. If the Big East and ACC lose their AQ's, I can see ESPN's legal team getting involved which will leave extra money out there to be had. BYU and Boise already have home for the olympic sports so what would the fuss be bringing in extra sponsors for football only?
Well I am not familiar with the "O" zone, but up here we can watch sh*tty podcasts of WSU baseball and UW softball games. As well as I don't like Oregon because you guys bought a baseball program but I still will watch it if it were available because you guys play good ball as does the rest of the Pac-12 but I get podcasts of WSU schools or watch overrated SEC baseball. My first love is baseball as I grew up seeing tons of the Olerud hayday Coug games then watching ASU, SC and Stanford do their usual powerhouse thing. |

The Pac-12 Thread....May 23, 2012 12:07 pm
It's quiet in the Pac-12 these days. No compulsion to expand, good TV package already in place. The players tend to stay out of trouble with the worst being a Beaver player who gets charged with trespass for going into a bar and grill that he was barred from. (yawn)
The Pac commissioner is the highest paid in CFB. (wow) Not even any trash talkers here.(Yea) It's tough to keep a thread active without inventing news.LOL. Sounds like the national media....... One question That I have is Wazzu's comment on Oregon "buying" a baseball program. I get that an individual helps the Oregon football(?), sports(?) program. Yet don't all school have alum that donate? Is it much different than other schools' alum except for the size of the donations? How is Oregon's situation any different in the long run than say, USC's or Washinfton's. I"m sure Utah probably gets donations for alum as well. I guess my question is "So what?" So if someone came along and made a big/continuous donation/s to Wash St. you'd turn it down? Am I missing something? (Again?) |

I am shocked by the bleacher report about us. Almost unanimously we are picked to finish dead last in the conference, saying Mike Leach needs time to gets his type of guys into his system, even though his system is rather simple and has the exact offensive talent he needs.
