A person close to the process denied a Wednesday report that Urban Meyer was about to become the next coach at Ohio State.

The person did not want to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation but is intimately involved in the process.

“People can throw out guesses,” the person said. “Some may or may not know what they’re talking about. It’s [the report] not true. That’s not the case. That is all there is to say.”

The Columbus Dispatch, citing two well-placed sources, reported Wednesday that Meyer will be announced next week as the new Buckeyes coach. The report added that contract terms had not been agreed upon.

Meyer has denied on at least two occasions he has been offered the job. That doesn’t account any indirect contact that may have been between his representatives and Ohio State officials. An Orlando, Fla. television station reported that Meyer has agreed in principle to a seven-year, $40 million deal.

Meyer has been widely speculated, and in cases reported, to be Ohio State’s next coach. He is not joining his usual ESPN broadcast crew at the Ohio State-Michigan game. ESPN released a statement saying the Bristol, Conn. studios were the best place for him to be this weekend to analyze games.

you are a silly boy. Hey good game Saturday, I am glad to see that you one your bet. Hey Mr. Meyer is coming to coach Yea. He is perfect for Ohio, a lying snake. He will be just what the program needs to turn it's image around. You have a big police force in ohio right, just wondering. Hope your jails aren't over crowded. Hey Braxton looked good I def, see the the comparsion between him and Tebow. Thank you pointing that out. I am sorry to hear that you are homeless maybe you can move in with urb and the rest of the buckeye family. That is true all big ten schools our ranked high, what is Ohio ranked just curious. The education must be good there you have a whole bunch of superstars trading for tattoo's not money. Like they didn't think the new ink in there arm was going to tell the tale. He y good luck next year I am sure the NCAA will have mercy on you not that you just hired a man who stands for honesty, loyalty and truth. Hey awesome pie hole again and schmuck now be honest you had to look up schmuck right. Kiss your mommy good night right before she tucks you in and have nice dreams about what may happen to the buckeyes in there bright upcoming future.

Wow the hatred between these two schools is amazing. You resort to making fun of eachother's states? Pretty classless. If you want to talk about michigan, how about detroit being one of the worst citied for crime in the nation. That's pretty embarrassing. Yes michigan is generally a nicer state than ohio and michigan is a better school. But I would hardly say ohio state is a community college.  And didn't they win 2 national championships in basketball, 1 in football, and a rose bowl victory recently? And michigan has won what again? I would hardly call that mediocre. Not being an ohio state fan, I am now rooting for them to win every time they play and especially to beat michigan just because of classless michigan fans.

So my Ohio fans, you lost to Michigan today - What would you say if an over optimistic report on Meyer was wrong? Next come sanctions, loss of scholarships. Wisconsin, Nebraska , MSU and U of M building and getting better. So we hope you enjoyed a few good years. Remember losing 12 of 15? Cooper duper? Ok now that you're humbled and put in your place, let's review for the nation our history and why there is such a rivalry. First was the Toledo dispute in the early 1800s where Michigan lost the port of Toledo. Ohio was also a main route of american expension. Michigan was a swamp . ohio lost their agricultural dominance in the mid to late 1800s when Michigan drained their middle plains swamps and began to til that fertile land. Michigan boomed agriculturally as well as industrially in the later 1800s while at the same time ohio and indiana were the carriage building capitals of the world. However, They became ghost towns when the automotive hub came to Detroit in the early 1900s. Ohio began to envy and hate michigan. Inept. Michigan became ohios #1 tourist state early 1900s it remains so today . So many cottages, retreats, lakes with actually fish, of course michigan is the grand escape from ohio....... Detroit soon became the number 1 most modern city in America at one time. During this time U of M elevated to ione of the most prestigious schools in the world. Average entrance grade is 3.92 to get in. The whole world lines up to get a U of M doctoral. Yes the global expansion has devastated Michigan in much the same fate as Ohio did when no one wanted a horse carriage in the 20s....... But Ohio ... Envious of the thumb state but Never more than just a commonwealth farm state with irrelevant status and mediocre everything until ........ 1 coach arrives. Woody Hayes made Ohio relevant in one arena, college football. That's it. That's all. Tressel revived it some. But his 6 year run did only some to dent the 3 - 12 record post woody. These are the facts. Sorry to redress you, cause no one wants to be reminded they are mediocre. So now the whole nation understands why Ohio hates U of M and Michigan. And sorry about Tressel and Meyer.

Urban Meyer will not coach for another 3 years. By then the Dolphins will finally land Andrew Luck and or Tim Tebow. You...can...bank...on...that! Of course he might sign alex Smith. It really depends on what Harbaugh thinks about reclaiming his former proteges. Josh Johnson/Andrew Luck....

Nice post Campbelldave. It's nice to read posts that are well thought out and actually make respectful points. Figures it would take a Michigan man to make sense out of ignorant post after post.

Great job.

Dodd, are you going to take this article down before or after the press conference announcing Meyer as the new head coach?

. Don't you remember the ol days of one J Cooper? Yup. They are back. Two reasons Meyer won't come to Ohio. The sanctions and having to play in the Big 10 - I mean he can't skate 3/4 season playing powder puffs. It'll be MSU. UofM Nebraska, Wisconsin,Penn st and Iowa. What bothers me is: Why do Ohio fans have insecure feelings of ineptitude wrt to Ohios degree worth VS a Michigan degree coming out in their posts ? Fairly obvious actually
