Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

Posted on: September 21, 2011 9:05 pm

The Big 12 is poised to replace commissioner Dan Beebe with former Big Eight commissioner Chuck Neinas, CBSSports.com has learned.

One highly placed source said the conference was moving quickly to replace Beebe who had been under fire from some conference members after recent instability within the league. Neinas, currently a well-known college consultant, is expected to be named interim commissioner.

The official word could come as soon as Thursday when the Big 12 presidents meet by conference call to discuss how to move forward. Based on the news of Wednesday, the embattled league apparently will continue with nine schools while seeking additional members.

The Tulsa World reported Wednesday that the Big 12 had "targeted" Neinas, one of the most respected college figures in the country. Neinas was the assistant executive director of the NCAA from 1961-1971 and Big Eight commissioner from 1971-1980. He currently runs Neinas Sports Services

Oklahoma and Texas are seemingly in the Big 12 fold after flirting with the Pac-12 for what seems like forever. Essentially, the Big 12 has taken a trip around the world the last few weeks and ended up in the exact same place -- without Texas A&M.

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

great state of Texas

Yeah the Great state of Texas that yielded the 3 worst Presidents in modern times Johnson,Bush and Bush, so thanks Texas appreciate sending us your illiterate. Texas where the public education systemis at an all time low and your kids ACT scores are the lowest anywhere...maybe you should focus less on the longhorns and more on your kids future! Of course you idiots didn't say you were suceeding from the USA a couple years ago so by all means go...see how long the Country of Texas lasts.

Yes and most of Texas's wins were from 1893 to 1910 but of course while texas was half ass during the mid 1960s 1970's 1980's 1990's and into 2003 Nebraska was dominating! For every year from 1967 till 2001 Nebraska won at least 9 games and no other school can ever say that and Texas can never say it. Noone has dominated modern college football like Nebraska has...Noone! Admit your stupidity and move on because Texas has nothing to brag about... a year here a year there but not every year for 37 years straight.

76, 80, and 84 ? Damn bro, you must be really old to remember those seasons. I guess I should respond with the years of obscurity for Nebraska of 1945-1961 where the corns went  97-132 during the entire stretch. Or how about when you lost 7 straight bowl games from 1988-94 ?In closing, you are 4-10 against the mighty Texas Longhorns from the great state of Texas. I've never heard anyone say "The great state of Nebraska". I wonder why ? Now go back to shucking corn and trying to figure out the forward pass !!!

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

I just love how Texas Fans brag about their team, so lets go back in history from 1976

1976 5-5-1 1980 7-5 1984 7-4-1 1986 5-6 1987 7-5 1988 4-7 1989 5-6 1991 5-6 1992 6-5 1993 5-5-1 1996 8-5  1997 4-7 1999 9-5

Now by all means go to those same years and compare Nebraska's record.

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

Yeah but you know it's funny how all the other teams have to give up their TV rights to the conference, all except Texas. If one of the teams leave then they have to give all their TV rights to the conference, all except Texas. Wow you talk about being a bunch of texas Bitches, so what did they accomplish well the fired Beebe and left Texas in charge and unhurt while screwing the other 8 teams over, could this be considered a suicide pact by Mizzou,Tech,Okla,Okla st,Kan,Iowa St,Kan St,Baylor. Never in the history of college athletics has a conference of teams been so willing to shoot themselves in the head just to please one program ( Texas ) that could give a shit less about the remaining teams. No need to look for other potential members because none will be willing coming! And it's almost humorous ( Not really ) that Oklahoma who help start all of this with Texas,Tech and Okla ST when they tried to mutiny to the Pac 10 are all now saying they need handcuffs to ensure conference stability.

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

'Huskerscan'tpass, Ok you're right you have had slow, unskilled, uncoordinated players plus a beast in Suh. Even the blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Again, no mention of a big game when Nebraska actually beat Texas ? Guess you should go back to your fantasy world in your corn palace where Nebraska actually matters and aren't the joke of the modern, industrialized football world with our moving picture boxes and motorized buggies or whatever you call cars !!!

having NO ARGUEMENT that your slow, uncoordinated, unskilled teams ever beat us in a game that mattered.
I didn't think it warranted a response but if you insist!!!!  Sealed

I will give you credit for being persistent and a tad bit funny but then again when you consider that most people who suffer from dilusions also carry those traits I guess I have to take back the credit and consider it a given that those are just associated behaviors.

In a game that mattered?  I thought they all mattered?  But then again when you easily dismiss and ignore your own laughable (and recent I might add)  season's  by clinging on to that minute shred of imaginary gratification that proclaims "at least we beat Nebraska" I suppose you can pick and choose what matters.   Although, I don't know that it's convincing to make light of beating an opponent and yet expecting that it can simultaneously be something to be proud of.  A bit perplexing and contradictory there.

I guess I really can't make an argument that we have slow, uncoordinated and unskilled players that can compete since so many of the scores were blow-outs.  I guess you'd have to ask McCoy if his @$$ still stings from spending so much of the time on it after slow, uncoordinated and unskilled Suh put him on it.   If that's the kind of players you're referring to then I guess we'll just have to be content with that!!

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

Huskerscan'tpass, I actually watched each of those games where Texas owned Nebraska so the knowledge comes from witnessing, I only have to look up the exact year and exact score. Funny, how you respond by saying I googled info, having NO ARGUEMENT that your slow, uncoordinated, unskilled teams ever beat us in a game that mattered. Like I said we have 1 bad year in 10 and we still beat you. As the saying goes, If you can't beat 'em, run and hide !!!
