Didn't you used to be Michigan and Nebraska?

What kind of world are we living in when Michigan is playing three quarterbacks and Nebraska is running out of tailbacks?

Rich Rodriguez revealed over the weekend that he is going to play Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan in the opener against Western Michigan. That's not a depth chart, it's checking line for Red Berenson. It's also a slap to the Broncos who come into the Big House with more than an even chance of winning. I know this: right now, Western Michigan has a better offense than Michigan.

Please don't argue that point because you will be wrong.

They say if you have two quarterbacks, you really have no quarterbacks. So what happens when you have three, gene-splicing?

Meanwhile at Nebraska, backup tailback Quentin Castille has been kicked off the team for a violation of team rules. That news came on the same day that former tailback Thunder Collins was convicted of murder.

Some quick research showed that there was a small window there in the late 90s when Nebraska actually didn't have a future inmate at tailback. Lawrence Phillips last played in 1995. Collins arrived in 2000. Things are getting better. It took until 2009 for Castille to smoke/drink/flunk (pick one or all) his way off the team.

(I'm going to be nice and not mention that Collins and Phillips were both convicted this month, roughly within two weeks of each other. What serendipity.)

This solidifies my pick of Kansas as the Big 12 North winner. Nebraska has now lost its backup tailback and quarterback. Florida or USC can deal with those type of situations. Nebraska? One outright Big 12 North title since 1999.

Please note that Michigan and Nebraska are not only hurting, they are hurting at their signature glamor positions. They've chosen to express that lack of depth in different ways.

so what qb is western going to prepare for?  they have to expect all 3 and they don't know how/what they're going to be used for?  i don't see how this is a bad move by rich rod.  of all the things you could criticize him for why this?  for all we know he'll put sheridan in for the first possesion to let the freshman get the feel of the game from the sideline.  then put forcier in as the #1 guy and occasionally cycle in robinson for his speed and run threat.  that's not really a bad game plan at all.  it's not like rich rod has come out and said that he's going to play them all for a third of the game no matter what happens.  he also said that if he knew who the #1 guy was going to be he wouldn't tell anyone.  he's just trying to make it hard for western to get a game plan together which i think is a good move...definitely not something to criticize him for.

plus i'll also say that every says rich rod is a sneaky who's to say he'll even play all 3?  he could just be bluffing.  personally i think he will play all 3 but if only forcier and robinson played it wouldn't surprise me at all.  i think people are reading too much into this statement.

Are we really talking about Nebraska and Michigan when it comes to thugs and no qb's? Do you have nothing better to write about than this? Wow you guys are really getting low on high profile stories. Miami can't keep a quarterback, Florida State can't keep wins from last year in the win column, Tennessee has a coach that cant keep his mouth shout, Notre Dame? why do we even talk about this team, let them play division two teams all year long and I got an idea!!!! let's put them in the national championship talk cause they might have a ten win season.....pathetic, when you decide to write a real column, with some pertinent information for the true college football fan you let me know!!!! Until then.....put your well earned money where your mouth is, cause Nebraska will win the big 12 north, I guarantee it. Nebraska has been putting national championship teams together with less for years, its called coaching...KIND OF A BIG DEAL!!!! GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND READ A BOOK!!!!

Plenty of talent? Henne, Hart, Manningham, Arrington, LONG...the list goes on of the number of quality players that left UM before RichRod even got there. He definately under acheived and tried to force his spread system with players that could not execute, thats my biggest issue with him...he should have adapted to what he had.

michigan ran a some what of a balance offense mixing up the run and the past so they had players in the system that run or pass block for  linemen decent receivers good rbs and okay D. now trying changing a team that is meant to run the ball 85% of the time and only pass to back the safety away from the box. west coast offense from a triple option thats a 3 year process just to weed out the players that can run the west coast and get your lineman to pass block instead of run blocking down hill. Callahan mistake was he forced in down the players throat when he should have ran some spread until the players fully understood the west coast concepts in the offense. callahan still eeked out 5 wins and if he didnt have that losing streak at the end of the season where he lost the last three could have won the big12 north. Rich rod could have still eeked out at least 5, 3-9 is not michigan like and this year they could be better if they stick with the tate/robinson combo and tell sheridan to hold the clipboard.

I agree with BlkFlagMafia that defense wins championships, but I don't believe that means much here. Nebraska returns some (all new linebackers) of a mediocre defense. Don't mistake having a great defensive plaer (Suh) and a great former defensive coordinator as a head coach as having a great defense. Nebraska got gashed repeatedly last year, have new linebackers, and not much talent at the cornerback position. I would be surprised if they have more than one defensive player make All Big XII first team this season.

nebraska rank 2nd behind texas in total defense in the big12, that with having walk-on and 2nd string defenders in at LB as nebraska suffered from injuries and not wanting to burn red shirts. Kansas O brings everybody back from last year and nebraska handled them at home 45-35, now is that 10pt victory a victory because of homefield advantage hmm dont know we shall see in couple of months. But kansas O is the same and lets not forget how they got blown out a couple times last year factor in they lose defenders and are bringing in a new defensive scheme (4-2-5).

Also that was the first year for Bo defensive wise so players were still adjusting from their "bad education" from cosgrove, now they fully understand and arent second guessing themselves and are attack the ball instead of reacting to it. You can sleep and diss nebraska D its okay because kansas schedule is gonna eat them up with having to play ou/tex/ttech, not to mention that nebraska plays kansas late in the year so you will have a well jelled offense from nebraska(baring anymore major injuries).

Everyone keeps saying its nebraska D vs Kansas O but i really think now it will be Nebraska O vs Kansas D, esp if kansas goes 1-2 verse the big 3 in the big12 south meaning they would have to beat nebraska to get their big12 north champs hope alive. And as for nebraska players making the all big12 team that isnt a big goal but refer to the rank of no2 last year in total D and tell me how many players made the all big12 team?? as for the corners i wouldnt sleep on them either nebraska return everybody but 1 corner in the secondary.

The linebackers will be more athletic and have more experience in this system,  they will be much improved. The secondary is what I'm worried about, with a stop the run mentality in place I worry about the defense being improved with the pass this year.

I had to sign up for an account, just to reply that Dodd is a moron.  Yes, that's right, in 100+ years of football, there have been a few bad eggs.  I'm sure any random program is going to have similar issues.  Dodd is attempting to sell global warming in an ice storm here.

Nebraska doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Michigan Your right, Michigan is not just bad but really bud. Not just un-ranked but really un-ranked. NU is on it's way up and MU is on it's way down, so I totally agree, Nebraska doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Michigan!
